Eggnog or Egg-Nah?

Regardless of your personal stance on eggnog you may occasionally, once a year, find yourself in need of a killer recipe. This one from the Spruce Eats gets our vote for the nail-it every time recipe.

You can click through for the recipe but if you do, just know that you'll be exposed to calories counts and fat grams and things that should really be avoided during the holiday season. Especially this one, in the Year of our Covid 2020. Otherwise, the SpruceEats recipe minus the pesky details is:

Photo by Matthew Henry from Burst
  • 4 large eggs

  • 6 ounces granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg (freshly grated)

  • 1/8 teaspoon allspice

  • 1/8 teaspoon clove

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 2 ounces cognac

  • 2 ounces orange liqueur (brandy-based)

  • 4 ounces bourbon whiskey

  • 12 ounces whole milk

  • 8 ounces heavy cream

For cognac, we recommend a Hennessy. For bourbon, we like a Woodford or Blanton's. Single barrels work best.

Blend the eggs for 1 minute in either a mixer fitted with a whip attachment or a blender.

Add sugar and spices and blend for an additional 30 seconds to incorporate.

Slowly add the liquors and blend another 30 seconds.

Add the milk and cream and blend 1 minute more.

Cover and refrigerate.

Serve in a champagne flute or teacup.

Grate fresh nutmeg and cinnamon over the top

Serve and enjoy
